With six people running around our house on any given day, breakfast is somewhat of a chaotic event! During the summer, however, we do have a far more laid-back routine that we follow. Being the fact that Monte leaves for work so early, he typically grabs a banana and his cup of coffee and is out the door, making his breakfast routine pretty simple. The rest of us are the complicated factors! During the week, my mornings almost always start out with Colin coming into my room (usually around 7:00 or 7:30am) to let me know that he’s ready to eat. After a quick trip to the bathroom, I find myself in the kitchen trying to find out what my four-year-old is ordering for breakfast that morning. Monte and I do our best to make sure that the kids get to enjoy their breakfast, and with that we eat a lot of cereal in our house! My kids absolutely love Frosted Flakes, Cocoa Krispies, Froot Loops, all flavors of Special K as well as the simplicity and deliciousness of Rice Krispies; we even splurge on the occasional Pop Tart. I’m pretty positive that my kids think these cereals are their little taste of Heaven on Earth! Cereal is a pretty common factor in our morning routine, especially since there are so many of us. While some days the kids ask for something such as oatmeal or eggs for breakfast, truly I would say at least five out of seven days they get to enjoy having cereal.
What happens on those remaining two days, then? Well, Saturday is an especially wonderful morning filled with a tradition that has been going on since long before I lived here; Saturday is pancake or waffle morning! Every Saturday morning we make either pancakes or waffles for the kids (who am I kidding, there really is no “we” in that, as Monte almost always does the preparation and cooking for this!) as well as a side of bacon. While this is something the kids just love, I am not a fan of pancakes and I really don’t like bacon at all, so I still typically still enjoy my cereal on Saturday mornings!
Sometimes during the school year the kids convince me of their extreme need to have pancakes for breakfast, so on occasion I do get up way too early and prepare this warm breakfast for them. This happened to be one of those particular mornings where Claire was up and enjoying pancakes around 6:00am! I'm just thankful that she's in the picture and not me, because I think I would have looked far more tired than happy!

Our Sunday routine often turns into a fend-for-yourself type of morning again, as we’re usually rushing around to get ready for church. What does that look like? A whole lot of cereal! With a large family, we are looking for the fastest and easiest approach to breakfast, without creating a huge mess of our kitchen. With two other meals on the plan for the day, it’s always appreciated to have at least one meal go by that doesn’t require a ton of clean-up afterward! If the kids don’t opt for cereal on Sunday morning, it is replaced by a bagel or toast with a side of fruit.
No matter what day of the week it is, the one common factor that we work with is simplicity. What’s the common factor that drives your families morning routine?!

For breakfast I usually grab yogurt or a granola bar.
ReplyDeletemami2jcn at gmail dot com
I like to do hot breakfasts for my kids b/c when they have cereal they get hungry again pretty quick. For me, it is easiest to make a huge batch of pancakes and serve it 2-3 days in a row (not that I am always organized enough to do this:)
ReplyDeleteOur morning breakfasts are usually on the run. I grad myself a breakfast bar for work and then my little ones eat at the day care!
ReplyDeleteI love giveaways! Breakfast changes a lot for me, but it's a must to start my day.
ReplyDeleteI blogged about the giveaway. :) http://becca-lifeaftergraduation.blogspot.com/2...
ReplyDeleteFor breakfast, I usually have a bowl of cereal and some fruit or two eggs and some fruit with toast. Trying to eat healthy for the baby!
ReplyDeleteI'm a cereal or oatmeal girl!
ReplyDeleteWould LOVE to win the giftcard!! :)

ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance...we have a waffle/french toast/pancake Saturday as well! :) Have a wonderful day!!

I would love to win! We usually have cereal, yogurt with granola or oatmeal. :)

ReplyDeleteI always eat either cereal,or diet shake or some yogurt!
ReplyDeletejacksoncrisman@yahoo.com
This morning I had chocolate chip oatmeal- but my kids had frosted mini wheats!
ReplyDeleteI usually grab a Kashi Bar, a piece of WW string cheese and a piece of fruit as I'm headed out the door. Cereal w/almond milk and fruit is something I especially look forward to on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteMany days I skip breakfast (I know, horrible) but I always get a mocha light frapp from Starbucks in the summer or a vanilla latte in cold or rainy weather. Day just isn't right without coffee!
ReplyDeleteMy breakfasts are typically something simple that I can eat on my way to work, such as a muffin or a bagel. My toddler gets a bag of cereal to eat in the car and the baby gets nursed. Hubby usually also grabs something quick and easy to eat while he's running out the door too.
ReplyDeleteI can't enter, I'm Canadian, but I'd like to enter on behalf of my American friend Tia, who is the healthiest breakfast eater I know, and who would love to buy groceries (including Kellogg stuff) with a gift card!
ReplyDeleteP.S. One tip that we have, is to mix Rice Krispies cereal with "treat cereal", that way they get a bit of both :) I mix it up right in the cereal containers we use to store the cereal.
ReplyDeleteI could use the gift card. :) I usually only have a granola bar for breakfast. Haha.
ReplyDeleteI am so NOT a morning person! For breakfast I eat a Special K Bar (Strawberry) at my desk. Every. Single. Day. Much easier than trying to grab something before I leave for work. Plus they're yummy!
ReplyDeleteI go for whatever is quick and easy. Toast usually. BORING!
ReplyDeletechelsea at rootsandrings dot com
My breakfasts vary, I must say. Frosted mini wheats are what jazzes me right now...but that will change in another week or two...
ReplyDeleteI was stuck on yogurt, fruit and whipped cream for a while. I know, sounds like dessert. I'm kinda that way...
I eat the same every morning egg white, turkey sausage link on a 100 calorie bagel! I eat cereal for dinner I bet twice a week- Yum! Now I am hungry!
ReplyDeleteI need to get my kids used to eating more cereal.
ReplyDeleteWe are cereal people too Kami. With daycare and feeding 8 little mouths every morning, I think I would go crazy if I did the huge breakfast everyday!
ReplyDeleteYahoo, how fun! Great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteBreakfast - I like it...just later in the day!
ReplyDeleteMy 3 year old loves warm bananas and rice hot cereal topped with raisins and cinnamon. I love how it smells like coffee cake!

ReplyDeleteI struggle a lot with breakfast since I usually sleep a little longer than I should each morning. If I eat cereal, I eat it dry. . .because who would ever think to have cereal AND milk in the house at the same time? Otherwise, I do my best to keep muffins in the freezer so I can grab one, throw it in the microwave and go!

Our breakfast routine in the mornings is usually a chocolate chip toaster waffle for my daughter as we're heading out the door. Weekends are more fun though as we usually go out to breakfast at least one of the days...huge treat! I love breakfast time because it's the one meal where my 6 year old is not picky.

ReplyDeleteFor breakfast I love having pop tarts on havd for those mornings I just don't feel like cooking. Otherwise I will make pancakes or waffles from scratch.

We love us some cereal in this house, we are too lazy to get up early enough for more.
ReplyDeleteCereal is by far the easiest!
ReplyDeleteI'm all about breakfast...it's a very necessary start to my day. The menu varies, but cereal is definitely in the mix! :) Though I know we were often deprived of 'sweet' cereals as kids, I often crave mom's homemade granola!

Cereal is a very common bedtime snack at our house so cereal is great...and not just for breakfast!:)
ReplyDeleteWe eat cereal for the most part... We have eggs sometimes and occasionally have breakfast for dinner!

ReplyDeleteWe do cereal without milk because my kids still can't help but make a mess AND I can save what they don't eat for another time.
ReplyDeleteMmmm.. I love breakfast foods!
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky enough to have a day care provider that feeds my kids breakfast, but it is usually cereal. Once in a while I'll make toast for the boys before we leave the house.
ReplyDeleteI usually have a protein shake or a granola bar for breakfast, something quick and easy :)
ReplyDeleteWe usually do cereal or granola on weekdays and Sundays, and do a big breakfast on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteBreakfasts are tough! To find something quick, easy, yummy and as mess free as possible. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou have the same Saturday routine I grew up with! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe are a grab what's available kind of family, typically ceral. As a homeschool Mommy I always had grand plans of homemade meals three time a day, but the reality is that isn't possible for our family and that's okay.:)
ReplyDeleteI love making pancakes on saturday mornings for our family of 6. It feels so good to all be able to enjoy a yummy meal together:)

ReplyDeleteOh, I really like that ... simplicity. The common factor to our mornings is similar ... we enjoy calm mornings. Our kids are grown so we enjoy a cup of coffee while we watch the critters who come to our feeders in the yard for their breakfast. Then ... we get busy with our day. We're not much for breakfast but once in awhile, on the weekend, we have a brunch ... that's fun too!

I have a friend that thinks cereal is too expensive to eat for breakfast but I pretty much only buy cereal that is on sale for $3 a box or less. When you think that that box is quite a few meals worth of food - that seems like a good bargain!
ReplyDeleteWe usually have cereal, but on Sundays my husband makes pancakes! :)
ReplyDeleteWe like cereal for breakfast, but enjoy having a hot breakfast for dinner on occasion.
ReplyDeleteBreakfast is usually help-yourself around here. The cereal is in a low cupboard the even the little kids can reach.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite a TRAGIC event when the cereal has run out in our house... You kiddos are lucky they get all of the sugary goodness, I try to stick to boring chex or crispix but they LOVE Noisy cereal AKA Rick Krispies!!!
ReplyDeleteWe do a lot of whole-grain frozen waffles with eggs in the mornings. It's quick and easy and not too sugary.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that drives the morning routine is whether this Mom got enough sleep and how fast she can drink her coffee!
ReplyDeleteFor breakfast most mornings I will grab a quick bowl of my favorite cereal. Some mornings I love a toasted bagel with cream cheese and a tall glass of orange juice. Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway!

I work 2nd shift so I sometimes don't go to bed until 3am. Needless to say, mornings consist of my husband calling and yelling into the answering machine to wake me up so I can get our daughter up and going for school...then I sit on the couch in a stupor until she leaves...it's cereal all the way for breakfast because if I try to use the stove, I'd set the house on fire, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI have a huge pet peeve about eating before school..if she skips breakfast I feel like the world's worst mommy so there's a lot of me yelling to "EAT SOMETHING" in the morning as she's trying to get ready. Even a granola bar eases my mom-guilt.

I'm not a big morning person, so I try to keep things quick and simple. To elimiate thinking when I'm usually not awake enough to do so I have the same thing every day. A banana and some instant oatmeal

Weekday breakfast is usually cold cereal and orange juice. Saturdays I'll make pancakes, french toast, or eggs. Sundays I like to make cinnamon rolls out of tube biscuits.

I love to have breakfast any time of the day. Breakfast for dinner is the best. You get all the goodness of breakfast without being so tired.

Up, shower, get kids up and feed all - cereal, frozen pancakes (homemade), waffles, scones and I usually try to get some fruit in my kids although I'm not always successful! Coffee for me! Take care of pets, dress and off to school.

Our typical morning routine is that I wake up first with the baby and make her and me oatmeal. THen our two older daughters wake up and make themselves Eggos and later my son and husband wake up last and have bowls of cereal. We never eat breakfast together but we always eat dinner as a family.

My boys...one like cold cereal or pop-tarts and the other is not a morning eater, for me it's coffee.
